Responsibilities

We are seeking a Medical Information Associate (MIA) who has a passion for helping patients and health care providers and the ability to work collaboratively to deliver meaningful solutions. The MIA combines deep scientific knowledge, communications expertise and exceptional collaboration skills to plan generate and deliver meaningful medical communications that are balanced, accurate, and timely to help improve patient outcomes. Patient care is enhanced through the quality and transparency of Lilly product information.

Collectively, the activities of the MIA help to influence strategic and tactical direction for their specific therapeutic area.



Key Objectives/Deliverables:
  1. Medical information provision
    • Provide medical information responses to unsolicited medical questions from internal business partners and external customers (health care providers, patients and/or caregivers), verbally (ie.phone, at conferences, etc.) and in writing, through a variety of channels (e.g. e-mail, social media, etc.)
    • Planning, researching and writing scientifically complex, high quality, balanced, scientifically based consistent and accurate medical information responses for customers in response to unsolicited questions from customers.
    • Demonstrate flexibility in providing coverage or support across all therapeutic areas in case of absences, events and capacity issues
    • Identification of queries containing either adverse events or product quality complaints and handling these in accordance with the appropriate operating procedures.
  1. Medical information materials creation and update
    • Prepare materials for contact center and patient support programs (e.g. localized Technical Response Documents, FAQs)
    • Create medical information responses and/or localize global medical information responses to reflect Canadian regulations, labeling and resources.
    • Keep medical information materials up-to-date with monitoring of product information
    • Assess feedback from customers to create more valuable medical information
  1. Subject Matter Expert for Medical Information
    • Apply the medical information expertise and analytics to medical information communication plan including channel selection
    • Engage scientific and clinical discussions by leveraging compound and disease knowledge and medical information related knowledge including the relevant regulations
    • Understand customer needs on medical information by leveraging a broad range of resources / technologies
    • Be a central point of contact and resources as a medical information expert
    • Continuously monitor requests and awareness of products, competitors and Therapeutic area changes/issues in order to identify topics coming up from the markets since this may require new/updated standard answers, databases and training.
    • Responsible for product training and processes to support the contact center, patient support programs.
    • Maintain and develop product and disease training for Medical Information team
    • Collaborate with Operation Consultant and Customer Analytics to analyze metrics for applicable Therapeutic Area and identify trends, collaborate internally to find appropriate solutions for Canadian customers
    • Provide formal or informal coaching to others in the function, or other departments by sharing scientific therapeutic expertise and medical information, give guidance and answer questions across functions and phases of drug development.
  1. Leadership
    • Lead and/or facilitate transformation to maximize the value of medical information
    • Share best practices about medical information related activities with others
    • Provide expert consultation and coach to others
  1. Additional responsibilities
    • Power User of on-line databases, systems, customer relationship management (CRM) tools and authoring software.
    • Review promotional, advertising and educational materials for scientific soundness and technical accuracy
    • Monitor and respond to Medical social media handle
    • Provide qualified support to users of databases and systems including user trainings, coordination with relative functions and other related tasks
    • Ensure balanced, scientific based, consistent and accurate medical information at peer reviews and quality checks
    • Coach contact center, pharmacy resident, new Medical information associates as medical information expert to ensure appropriate responses

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Medicine or Nursing
  • Skill to search information including computer-based searching skill
  • Effective telephone communication and computer skills.
  • Ability to translate complex medical information and data into a succinct, technically correct, readable document that customers are able to read and use to make clinical decisions.
  • Experience with databases, performing medical literature searches and evaluation of the medical literature
  • Advanced written and verbal English and French skills
  • Flexibility in order to meet customer needs
  • Flexibility in working in multiple therapeutic areas as need arises
  • Strong verbal, written and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Self-management skills to work independently (e.g. Project management skills)
  • Communication and interpersonal skills (e.g. Collaboratively work with team members)
  • Bilingual strongly preferred (English/French)
  • Prior experience in the provision of medical information in hospital, community, or pharmaceutical industry preferred.
