Responsibilities

Purpose:
The purpose of the Associate Director, Portfolio Management (P4) role is to have overall responsibilities for Therapeutic Area (TA) portfolio planning and implementation through working with the China Therapeutic Area (TA) Medical Director, China Project Managers and medical cross functions, Global Business Unit and the corresponding Affiliate commercial to assure all TA projects planning and implementation. The overall responsibilities as below:
  • Therapeutic Area portfolio management: Partnership with China Therapeutic Area (TA) Medical Director and Global Business Unit to ensure all TA projects scope, planning, and implementation.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership within/out of PM function to drive Project Management excellent performance and the continual process improvement.
  • Demonstrate strong capability to lead highly complex and large-scale asset/program/project with innovative strategy, planning and implementation.

Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Therapeutic Area portfolio management: Partnership with China Therapeutic Area (TA) Medical Director and Global Business Unit to ensure all TA projects scope, planning, and implementation.
  • Work with TA Medical Director to develop TA strategies and prioritized portfolio and lead the successful implementation of integrated plan.
  • Play as the communication hub between global TA liaison, local medical, local/global BU and across various functions to ensure China TA portfolio in alignment with corporate and China strategy priorities.
  • Ensure the delivery of drug development results committed to the organization to ensure TA key projects planning and delivery with quality, on time, on budget.
  • Lead TA core team through the planning, development, implementation, and periodic refresh of the therapeutic area strategy, including strategies for individual molecules/indications leveraging quality decision making principles.
  • Accountable for the processes which deliver accurate and robust TA portfolio information to key stakeholders, including leading the preparation and presentation in China TA scorecard, Semi-Annual Portfolio Review, China TA strategy Review, China Business Plan and Strategy plan, Sr. leadership TA portfolio review etc.
  • Provide guidance and leadership through management of TA portfolio metrics and measurements reporting process to drive reliability and improvement.
  • Responsible for assessing and managing issues related to “flow” of portfolio projects including resources or funding constraints, gaps in performance to milestone commitments within TA.
  • Interface with PR&D organization on the strategic supply chain planning for TA projects.

  1. Demonstrate strong leadership within/out of PM function to drive Project Management excellent performance and the continual process improvement.
  • Model the leadership behaviors put forth in the “On Leadership” White Paper as well as the Project Management White Papers.
  • Serve as process and/or subject matter expert for project management and drug development to identify and corporate best practice into future iterations of processes, tools. Provide relevant trainings and guidance to PM team from technical perspective.
  • Identify and bring continual process improvement to team and function; identify methods to decrease drug development cycle times and cost.
  • Drive retrospective project/process review meetings (i.e. after action reviews) to identify issues and strengths and help capture learning.
  • Creates an environment that encourages intelligent risk taking and fosters a winning culture within the team.
  • Build winning team culture in TA core team and project teams
  • Contribute to the development of others by being an active source of coaching and mentoring. Supports the growth of project management expertise in Lilly China.
  • Reaches agreement with supervisor on the alignment of performance and development objectives with the goals and objectives of the department and the corporate business priorities.
  • Is an ambassador for the Lilly Brand and also TA Brand.

  • Leads complex and large-scale asset/program/project planning and implementation with innovative mindset and strong judgement based decision making skills.
  • Keep strong business acumen concept in mind to ensure project planning meet with BU strategies.
  • Translate China marketing, medical and regulatory needs with innovative thinking for the molecule/new indication/line extension (including new formulation / delivery solution) into the global integrated plan.
  • Lead project team well adaptive in the continuous internal and external changing environment.
  • Lead project team to meet or exceed overall project goals (completion of clinical studies, CMC deliverables and NDA preparation, submission and approval timing etc.).
  • Hold functions accountable for achievement of the complex projects deliverables in alignment with the agreed to project plan in the greater risk, resource/financial requirements and/or complexity.
  • Leads the creation and maintenance of a China clinical development plan or subsets of the plan including scope, budget, timeline, and risk. Translates the development strategy into operational objectives and monitors performance to the plan. Leads appropriate control processes for the team, reviews/adjusts on a regular basis/after governance visits. Ensures required approvals for China molecule/indication plan are obtained and integrated into global development plan.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in a scientific or health-related field.
  • More than 10 years portfolio/project management experience directly related to drug development/clinical development experience with a strong knowledge of regulations and drug development.
  • Strong ability to work across functional and geographic boundaries to develop strategies and plans, and deliver results.
  • Able to anticipate changeshow flexibility, adjust quickly and effectively to frequent changes and altered priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills: clearly and succinctly with different audiences including team members and leadership.
  • Excellent self-management and organizational skills; able to manage workload, set personal and team priorities and adjust as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills; able to develop effective teamwork between team members with diverse interpersonal styles; able to deliver effective coaching and feedback.
  • Flexibility to adjust quickly and effectively to frequent change and altered priorities.
  • Working or leading experience in Global interaction.
  • Fluent Spoken and written English skills.
Other Information/Additional Preferences:
  • Advanced degree (Master, Doctorate, etc.)
  • Higher degrees or certifications (e.g. MS., MBA, Masters in Project Management or PMP).
  • Experience working in big pharms, working with Clinical Research Organization (CROs) and / or third parties.
  • Strong computer skills especially in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) and ProChain Scheduler / Enterprise.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong learning agility.
  • TA area expertise preferred.
