Responsibilities

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

To proactively and independently operate as a business partner for several key business units and supporting functions for China affiliate, by providing professional legal advices to support various operations for Lilly business in China.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & REMIT:

Proactively contribute from legal perspective to company-wide and cross-function projects, process optimization and operating model changes;

Negotiate, handle and approve contracts and other legal documentation for critical or complex projects for Lilly China;

Develop bilingual templates of contracts or other legal documents for complicated projects or innovative projects;

Monitor thorough understanding of the legal development, perform legal research, communicate with various government authorities to understand the most recent regulatory developments, and advise various functional departments on the legal interpretation, implications and opportunities for the company’s operations;

Lead effective discussions with members of other teams, when needed, to identify the specific needs and maintain consistency of legal standards to meet local business requirements with limited risk;

Engage business leaders (function heads and director level) to promote risk prevention mindset for daily business operations;

Establish, review and improve legal-related policies and/or procedures periodically regarding the business operations in his/her responsibility to ensure the procedures and/or policies in line with the development of business operation, the guideline of global policies and applicable laws and regulations;

Lead coordination effectively with the Global Legal Department to identify the needs and obtain effective support to meet the local business requirement;

Support department head on government investigation and risk management, if needed;

Handle local legal disputes through negotiation, mediation or litigation;

Monitor and supervise external counsels;

Develop training plan and provide legal training to staff;
Lead, coach and manage subordinates to provide quality legal support to the daily operations for all relevant functions of Lilly business in China;
And other tasks as designated by GC.

Basic Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Bachelor degree in PRC law or above;

PRC Bar Qualification is a must;

At least 8 years’ experience in reputable law firm or multi-national company;

Familiar with operations of pharmaceutical industry, foreign direct investment, contract and general corporate legal work;

Good understanding of PRC law, sound business acumen and commercial awareness and practically-oriented, ability to identify and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively, ability to provide solution-oriented legal advices;

Excellent communication skills in both English and Chinese (written & verbal);

Computer literacy, familiar with all Microsoft applications;

Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-minded, clear thinker, quick learner, team player and ability to work independently under pressure with minimum supervision; and

Team management skills.
