The Research IDS team have combined novel techniques, simulation, analytics, and data capabilities with deep knowledge of science to discover effective and differentiated therapies in cancer, diabetes, immunology, neurodegenerative and other disease areas.

Working with research scientists from drug discovery and taking advantage of Lilly’s proprietary access to scientific data and computing platforms, you will play a key role in deliver and enable critical AI/ML capabilities.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives:

Serve as a technical leader partnering with computational scientists to deploy, scale, and manage computational models as part of the broader MD3 (Model Driven Drug Discovery) Platform team.

Improve existing & develop new computational algorithms in partnership with scientists at Lilly to support drug discovery.

Collaborate with Lilly Research & Enterprise architects to build future best in class capabilities to support computational workflows at scale.

Work with cloud account teams at AWS/Azure to influence the direction of their service offerings relevant to Lilly Research cloud workloads.

Contribute where appropriate to new & existing open-source projects

Architect cloud solutions using modern architecture principles such as micro-service design

Drive workable, simple (where possible) solutions with a re-use methodology to promote future reduced “time-to-value”

Ensure timely escalation and resolutions of issues (project / operations) with appropriate follow through and team engagement

Basic Requirements & Experience Expectations:

  • Experience developing applications in at least one common application development language (Python, Java, NodeJs, Golang, etc.)
  • Experience working with Git
  • Understanding of at least one major public cloud with relevant experience designing and implementing solutions
  • Experience in translating business requirements to recommended solutions
  • M.S. in computer science, computational, data sciences or related fields or a BS with at least 3 years' working experience
  • Demonstrable experience in processing, organizing, integrating, analyzing and visualizing complex data and information from disparate sources
  • Hands-on experience in languages such as Python or R, and related informatics code packages and tools (e.g. Pandas, Plotly, Jupyter, R Shiny) while performing data analysis workflows


Additional Skills/Preferences:

Demonstrated versatility in technical leadership, project management, and systems/software development and implementation
Experience working with teams across organizational and geographic boundaries and multiple levels within the organization
Strong teamwork, self-management, problem-solving abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience in multiple common languages
Expertise in processing, analyzing and interpreting both structured and unstructured data
Experience with Machine Learning and/or Deep Learning approaches
Innovative thinking with strong problem-solving skills
