Organization Overview:

Bioprocess Research and Development team has an exciting opportunity for an innovative Scientist to join our process development organization. You will be part of a diverse team of biochemists, molecular biologists, chemical engineers, and analytical chemists to develop Lilly’s growing portfolio of therapeutic proteins of various modalities (mAbs, fusion proteins, bispecifics etc.) at all stages of development.

Top Candidates For This Position Will Be Able To

  • Lead upstream process development activities, including process characterization, scale-up, scale down model, and platform process improvement.

  • Develop robust, scalable and innovative viral vector cell culture processes for gene therapy products

  • Support technology transfer to Drug Substance manufacturing and troubleshooting of clinical batches across multiple sites.

  • Show proficiency in cell culture, molecular biology, protein expression, flow cytometry, next generation sequencing and various analytical techniques.

  • Responsible for authoring and reviewing of relevant regulatory sections.

  • Participate in cross-functional process development teams, and effectively collaborate with other groups in Discovery and Manufacturing as well as academia and other companies to develop new technologies / products

The ideal candidate will have strong technical problem-solving capability, be highly motivated and internally driven enabling them to work independently and achieve efficient, quality results within a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Work effectively with external parties on development projects, research collaborations and outsourcing efforts.

  • Lead organization initiatives, evaluating and implementing new capabilities / technologies and providing internal / external influence

  • Manage a diverse development portfolio and continuously drive innovation to further process understanding.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication to speak to both technical and business-related implications of your work.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

  • Proficient in English

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Expertise in cell culture, molecular biology with an emphasis on cell culture process development and optimization. Preference for 1-5 years of industry experience in supporting production of therapeutic proteins and/or viral vectors.

  • Self-directed and highly motivated individual who wants to learn new techniques while continually pursuing research and publication goals.

  • Ability to balance multiple activities, prioritize and handle ambiguity.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to work efficiently in an interdisciplinary team environment.
