The Lilly RNA Therapeutics Team is seeking a hardworking and motivated scientist to join our fast-paced, interdisciplinary team as we use novel RNA/oligonucleotide based therapeutic modalities to enhance the Lilly portfolio. We pursue ground breaking research in a highly interdisciplinary environment to enable the next generation of RNA therapies. The successful applicant will utilize their knowledge and technical expertise in key areas to enable core capabilities and help drive the discovery and development of RNA-based clinical candidates. We work in close collaboration with colleagues in drug delivery and various therapeutic areas. The successful candidate should have a strong track record of synthesizing oligonucleotides. Other key facets of the role for RNA Therapeutics at Lilly are assembling and progressing an innovative preclinical portfolio with focus on scientific precision and portfolio efficiency. We are building and maintaining state-of-the art expertise in major oligonucleotide-based modalities, with an emphasis on innovative ways for breakthrough efficacy. Position responsibilities:

  • Design and synthesis of novel nucleosides, phosphoramidites, and oligonucleotides
  • Purification and characterization of modified nucleoside and oligonucleotide analogues
  • Hit and lead optimization of potent siRNA designs
  • Use state of state of the art synthetic techniques, including bioconjugation where applicable.
  • Provide leadership to guide chemistry, and work in collaboration with biologist colleagues on in vitro and in vivo experiments.
  • Coordinate data to prepare experimental reports and communicate the results of the projects at internal meetings.
  • Contribute to multiple projects as project team leader and/or member.

Basic Qualifications :

  • PhD in Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry or related field 

Additional Skills/Preferences :

  • Strong multi-step organic synthesis experience on synthesis of nucleosides/nucleotides
  • Experience on diverse chemical matter such as carbohydrates, heterocycles
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Strong scientific and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to multitask efficiently, prioritize quickly and bring projects to conclusion.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment as well as leading and leveraging the matrix and strong project management skills required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to represent Lilly in a highly professional manner.
  • Highly creative and have a track record of accomplishment working in dynamic team environment
  • Knowledge of Pharmaceutical Discovery, Development and Intellectual Property Processes.
