As part of the Large Molecule team within the Global Quality Laboratories (GQL) division the qualified individual will serve as the technical steward for bioassay.  The role will be a combination of laboratory activities and method transfer activities. Laboratory work may include method optimization, reagent qualifications or other experimental determinations.    Method transfer may include hands on analyst training, and authoring/reviewing documentation to move the molecule from the Development phase to the Commercial phase. The qualified individual will be expected to collaborate with third parties, development laboratories, and international testing laboratories.  The qualified individual will also be expected to communicate results and processes effectively in presentation and written reports, and to participate in cross-functional teams actively and cooperatively.

 

KEY OBJECTIVES/DELIVERABLES:

  • Demonstrated experience with assays that assess the biological activity of bioproducts such as antibodies, bispecific antibodies, multifunctional proteins, and peptides.
  • Coordinate with Development or Third-Party collaborators to ensure a proper bioassay is developed, optimized, and ready for transfer.
  • Assess and evaluate new technologies suitable for bioassay implementation in global markets.
  • Ensure validation and transfer of potency assays for QC release and stability testing meet product requirements and corresponding regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for experimental execution, data review and analysis, document writing, and supporting global regulatory submissions throughout the molecule’s lifecycle.
  • Generate and thoroughly document results, and maintain instrumentation in a GMP-compliant environment.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external partners. Work on cross functional teams

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Bioanalytical Chemistry or related field and a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in pharma/biotech industry, or
  • BS/MS in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Bioanalytical chemistry or related field and a minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in pharma/biotech industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cell-signaling and biological systems.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with potency assays. (e.g., reporter gene assays, proliferation assays, effector function assays, other fluorescence and luminescence-based assays, assays for novel therapeutic targets including siRNA).


ADDITIONAL PREFERENCES:

  • Understanding of GMP quality systems.
  • Knowledge about FDA/EMA regulations on potency assay requirements and method validation.
  • Experience with automation (e.g., liquid handlers, FACS, Biacore)
  • Experience with statistical analysis of bioassays using software (e.g., SoftMAX pro, PLA2.0, JMP (SAS)).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, train and supervise other scientists.
