Bioproduct Analytical Development has an exciting opportunity for an analytical chemist to join our analytical method development group. You will be part of a diverse team of analytical chemists, pharmaceutical scientists, and purifications engineers delivering product and process understanding across a broad range of platforms. Top candidates for this position will be able to:

  • Perform chromatographic method development for synthetic peptides, proteins, and synthetic oligonucleotides, monoclonal antibodies and/or bioproducts
  • Develop state-of-the-art separation science capabilities to translate fundamental innovation into portfolio enabling separations technologies
  • Improve fundamental understanding of retention and separation mechanisms for synthetic oligonucleotides, peptides and proteins
  • Lead analytical method and control strategy development for oligonucleotides, therapeutic recombinant proteins, and/or our bioproduct large molecule portfolio.
  • Responsible for evaluating and/or implementing new analytical technologies/methods to advance Lilly's current analytical capabilities for bioproduct testing with a focus on state-of-the-art separation sciences capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have breadth in multiple analytical techniques. Must be have strong technical problem-solving ability, and be able to work with cross-functional teams to perform risk assessments for the assignment of critical quality attributes in support of complex control strategy development.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Engage with scientists across Eli Lilly’s Development and Manufacturing organizations to develop robust control strategies
  • Identify and exploit new scientific concepts, strong problem-solving skills, and be self-motivated to contribute across multiple projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication to speak to both technical and business-related implications of your work.
  • May supervise other B.S./M.S. analytical scientists supporting bioproduct analytical development. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemistry.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience with chromatographic separations, capillary electrophoresis, spectroscopic methods and methods for the analysis of oligonucleotides, peptides, and proteins.
  • Demonstration of scientific and people leadership skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Ability to balance multiple activities, prioritize and handle ambiguity
