Associate Vice President, Manufacturing and Quality Information and Digital Solutions (MQ IDS) We are at a time of unprecedented growth with five new state of the art manufacturing sites under construction.   Lead with Manufacturing and Quality to make medicine in a more effective and productive way enabled by technology. 

The Associate Vice President of Global Solutions for MQ IDS reports directly to the Vice President and Information Officer for Manufacturing and Quality.  Accountable to lead and deliver against the overall digital strategy for the Global Quality Assurance, Global Quality Control, Technical Services/Manufacturing Sciences and Global Facilities, Utilities, Maintenance and Engineering Organizations. 

Enables Operational Excellence through the delivery of innovative technology across the areas of accountability. Builds and sustains highly capable and effective organizations, applying appropriate technical expertise, maintaining the necessary capacity, and ensuring that capabilities evolve over time to meet the needs of the sites and/or functions. Directs activities through a team of technical leaders. Drives integration and linkages across manufacturing site and functional lead teams.

Will assure compliance with GMPs, GLPs, Sarbanes Oxley, Privacy and other regulations related to computer systems and technologies and adherence to company standards, policies, and procedures.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Strategic Direction

  • Partner with Manufacturing and Quality Functions to determine Global Solutions Digital Strategy over 3–5 year strategic plans
  • Partner with Information Security to determine strategic cyber security plans for Industrial Control Systems
  • Lead the implementations of next generation Laboratory Information Management and Laboratory Execution Systems across all of our manufacturing sites globally
  • Stay ahead of technology trends through external surveillance

People Management

  • Effectively recruit new technologists and develop and retain diverse talent
  • Conduct and complete performance evaluations and ensure career maps are in place
  • Ensure capabilities evolve over time to meet the needs of the organization
  • Provide reward and recognition to maintain high levels of employee engagement
  • Lead the merit pay process, talent assessment and succession planning for respective MQ IDS organization
  • Model and promote the principles of Operational Excellence

Quality Advocate

  • Promote a culture of compliance and advocate for quality improvement practices across the organization
  • Ensure understanding and compliance of applicable internal standards, and applicable external regulations such as SOX, GMP, HIPAA and Privacy
  • Ensure high levels of data integrity through rigor and control of data and configurations

Infrastructure, Solution Delivery and Support

  • Ensure a reliable and resilient IT infrastructure is in place to support operations
  • Ensure strong lifecycle management processes are in place and influence vendors towards evolving architectures


  • Effectively contribute as a member of the MQ IDS Lead Team to lead the organization in delivering results in the short-term while preparing for the long-term needs of a changing business
  • Identify, select, and develop technical leadership talent within the organization
  • Model the Manufacturing Standards for Operational Excellence leadership behaviors and set expectations for the organization beyond the technical/functional areas
  • Work cross-functionally across IDS and MQ as well as with external parties and other corporate groups to achieve common objectives, remove obstacles and deliver expected results
  • Be willing to manage multiple, diverse tasks, special assignments and/or to perform roles outside of MQ IDS function
  • Represent the organization in external forums and committees and influence COTS Software direction
  • Drive a culture of Safety
  • Ability to lead a large group of people; set vision, objectives, motivate, engage, communicate, and get results

Budget Management and Administrative Tasks

  • Develop budgets and manage within guidelines
  • Track expenses and capital investments

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science, or related field
  • 10 Years + of leadership experience in technical positions in manufacturing with preference in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Must have Technical Leadership experience at a manufacturing site in addition to a broader global role
  • Demonstrated ability to set and influence technical direction with Senior Management
  • Track record in delivering results

Additional Skills/ Preferences

  • Experience leading implementations of Laboratory Information Management and/or Laboratory Execution Systems
  • Technical depth in IOT and Advanced Analytics
  • Demonstrated leadership experience leveraging Six Sigma / Lean
  • Demonstrated strong learning agility
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with key software and service providers and leveraging successful relationships with relevant industry collaborators and academic organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Track record in setting direction and leading implementation of initiatives within time and budget
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and strategic thinking
  • Ability to prioritize across multiple projects and demands from various business functions
  • Ability to understand complex business problems and develop efficient operational plans for solution and service delivery
