Responsibilities :

As a Mechanic, you will provide general maintenance support for Indianapolis Manufacturing sites, focused on equipment uptime and reliability. You will work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality Control and various other groups to troubleshoot, maintain and perform Corrective and Preventative maintenance on Process Instrumentation and provide project support on production and utility related equipment.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Perform repairs and overhaul basic Equipment (e.g., gear boxes, pumps, blowers, fans, drives)
  • Perform repairs and overhaul complex equipment to include disassembly, setting tolerances, aligning, resetting timing, ( e.g., air compressors, vacuum pumps)
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections/repairs and document additional repairs needed.
  • Maintain and perform preventive maintenance on shop and safety equipment (e.g., tools, machinery, and confined space equipment).
  • Troubleshoot root causes of machine problems (e.g., excessive vibration or temperature, bearing failures, abnormal noises, and poor performance).
  • Lubricate machinery and rolling stock throughout the plant, including removing and replacing machine guards (e.g., production equipment, fans, ventilation equipment, etc.)
  • Inspect/repair process fluid hoses (e.g., verify grounding, replace fittings, hydrotest).
  • Remove, make precision repairs, and reinstall equipment such as compressors, vacuum pumps, etc.
  • Inspect, test, and replace safety relief valves, control valves, actuators and other miscellaneous valves.
  • Clean and/or reclaim pipe fittings and valves.
  • Inspect and rebuild steam traps.
  • Setup equipment to design specifications (e.g., timing, leveling, alignment).
  • Operate precision alignment equipment (e.g., Roma-align, laser, etc).
  • Operate rigging equipment (e.g., chain hoist, jib cranes, slings and chains) for equipment removal or installation (e.g., tanks, agitators, condensers, heat exchanges)
  • Provide accurate, complete, and legible Work Order documentation on both paper copy (when required) and in GMARS system.

Basic Qualifications :

  • 2-5 years mechanical experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • High School diploma/GED
  • Completion of Post Offer Exam, Completion of Work Simulation or Completion of Administrative Skills Testing if applicable.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position

Additional Skills/Preferences :

  • Demonstrated knowledge of troubleshooting equipment failures
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good documentation practices and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work in team environment
  • Track record of maintaining a neat and orderly work area (good housekeeping)
  • Willingness to work outside of your craft, as required
  • Ability to follow written procedures while performing maintenance activities
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, working safely and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site Goals.
  • Experience within a regulated industry; FDA regulated industries preferred
  • Associates Degree in a mechanical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Ability to perform quality work without close supervision
  • Proficiency in CMMS (e.g., Maximo), Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in providing a high-level of customer service
  • Associates Degree, Technical Certificate preferred

Additional Information :

  • Working safely is a condition of employment.  Individual must be able to comply with all building gowning and SOP requirements.
  • Carrying a pager and respond to off-hour call-in emergencies when necessary is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be willing to work overtime during peak periods (e.g. spring and fall shutdowns, etc.).  Schedule could change due to business needs for additional coverage during Shutdowns, training and peak vacation times.
  • Applicant may perform work in various areas; therefore must be able to work any shift.
  • Potential exposure to allergens and probability to work in confined spaces and Aseptic environments is also present.
  • US travel requirements are 5% or less.
  • This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend annually for up to 4 years.
