Eli Lilly is a Fortune 500 company headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lilly has implemented a single instance SAP ECC 6.0 solution in over 70 countries throughout the world. A global SAP implementation configuration template was utilized and configuration adjustments were made to meet specific local legal requirements. At the time of each country go-live, some key business processes were shifted from being performed in the affiliates in each country to being performed by either one of Lilly’s four regional shared service centers or by Lilly’s business process outsourced partner.

In general, the point of contact for questions or questions by the country affiliate personnel is one of the four regional shared service centers. The Finance Business Process Knowledge Center (BPKC) is a global organization containing subject master experts and global data stewards with deep SAP and business process knowledge from the general accounting, purchase to pay, order to cash, intercompany, and forecasting and planning processes. The Finance BPKC is the second tier of SAP and business process support for country affiliate personnel and the regional shared service centers. Additionally, the Finance BPKC expertise is utilized as subject matter experts on numerous business process and SAP improvement projects. The Finance BPKC personnel is coordinated to provide service to all regions (Americas, Europe/Africa, Asia Pacific) and share learnings across those regions.

Position Description:

The Manager-BPKC is accountable for the strategic direction and oversight of the Finance BPKC in the support and the ongoing improvements for the tax processes. This leadership position will assure the Finance BPKC delivers business process and SAP training, consulting, high-level problem resolution, and process improvements to leverage the use of SAP to make financial business processes more efficient and effective. This position is also accountable for aligning with the Global Shared Service Center organization, the financial business organization, and the IT organization to deliver timely process improvements and projects to the finance organization. This position is also responsible for developing, motivating, and growing a world class technical organization, which includes the development of business process and SAP mastery.

Objective 1: People Management and Development
  • Develop, retain, motivate and recruit talent to ensure business process success.
  • Mentor and help develop teammates across the BPKC supported geographies.
  • Lead performance and development ensure BPKC associate development.
  • Own and cultivate strong partnerships with IT, the Shared Service Center organizations, and affiliates
  • Responsible for capacity management exercises to assure BPKC members are assigned to projects or other initiatives to further develop skill set and experiences
  • This position is expected to have ~10 subordinates (Lilly and contractors)

Objective 2: Strategy Development and Management
  • Customer Experience
    • Responsible for defining and creating the BPKC strategic direction for a positive customer experience
    • Remove barriers that prohibit team from delivering a positive customer experience.
    • Identify key insight(s) for the BPKC in partnership with key customers
    • Accountable for handling the development and delivery of key BPKC communications on BPKC strategy, organization, and key initiatives
  • Relationship Management
    • Provide oversight of vision, goals, and objectives for the BPKC
    • Develop strong partnerships and engagement with the Global SSC, Process Leaders, BPO, and IT leadership
    • Lead the health of relationships with SSCs, Process leaders, BPO, and IT
    • Develop productive and positive strategic relationships and lead integration among partners and the customer base
  • Budget Management
    • Responsible for management of the overall BPKC budgets and associated operating expenses and capital spend
    • Responsible for making budget trade-off decisions for the team.
    • Develop strategy for capacity management to determine and communicate when temporary BPKC resources are required
  • Risk Management
    • Responsible for understanding, implementation, and adherence to company policies, processes and external obligations, as applicable.
    • Ensure team operates in compliance with The Red Book, Corporate Integrity Agreement, Financial Policies and all Compliance procedures.

Objective 3: BPKC Operations Management and Oversight
  • Assure organization delivers on the business process and SAP knowledge transfer strategy and shares key learning points and system changes to the V&C community to increase business process knowledge and SAP proficiency.
  • Assure tier 2 support is provided to the regional shared service centers, business process outsourced partner and SAP enabled affiliates on business process production support questions and problems to meet the positive customer experience strategy.
  • Conduct business process discussions/influence to assure business process are understood, stable, controlled, and efficient.
  • Collaborate with global process owners, shared service center management and business process outsourced partner on process improvement matters to assure the system is meeting the vision and efficiency and effectiveness metric targets are met.
  • Provide oversight and participation in projects focused on leading change and process improvements
  • Assure organization develops and executes a SAP regression strategy, which includes understanding new functionality and facilitating testing coordination by identifying what needs to be tested and by which country affiliate.
  • Provide oversight to the production support governance by assessing the criticality of issues and by prioritizing break/fix and enhancement SAP change requests.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of SAP experience
  • 3+ years of demonstrated competencies in core finance business processes
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience

  • Strong business process knowledge and experiences across forecasting and planning, general accounting, intercompany, order to cash, purchase to pay, tax, security, and data stewardship
  • Strong SAP usability knowledge and experiences to offer direction, oversight, and guidance on how SAP can be leveraged to meet business process needs
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills
  • Proven appreciation and experiences with regional geographies and cultures
  • Demonstrated both a bias for action and a focus on results
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize opportunities and form a vision for what can be achieved, set or strongly influence the setting of direction, exceed expectations on deliverables

  • Previous experience supporting multiple countries for a global company utilizing a shared service center support structure
  • Knowledge of local legal business processes requirements
  • Previous SAP implementation experience
  • Effective project management skills
  • Six Sigma Green Belt expertise
  • This position is a global virtual position and can be performed outside of the United States
  • Due to the nature of the support activities, some overtime and/or “off hours” effort may be required during peak business times
  • Some international travel will be required (up to 15% of the working time)
