In the RNA Therapeutics Team, both basic and applied sciences are vital. We are looking for creative and energetic problem solvers to join a multidisciplinary team at the front edge of innovation. Key facets of the role are solid-phase synthesis of custom nucleic acid oligomers and conjugation of ligands for specific cellular and tissue delivery to progress an innovative preclinical portfolio. We are building state-of-the art expertise in major oligonucleotide-based modalities and delivery approaches, with an emphasis on innovative approaches with potential for breakthrough efficacy.

Our fast-paced, interdisciplinary team uses novel RNA/oligonucleotide based therapeutic modalities to enhance the Lilly portfolio. The successful applicant will apply their knowledge and technical expertise to complement and enable core capabilities and help drive the revelation and development of RNA-based clinical candidates. Basic Qualifications:

  • BS (with 1 or more years of experience post education) or MS (with research experience) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field
  • Experience in synthetic organic and/or oligonucleotide chemistry preferred

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience in solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis (MerMade, AKTA, etc.), using and trouble-shooting automated solid-phase synthesizers and optimizing synthetic protocols and reaction schemas.
  • Experience in the optimization of purification protocols for oligonucleotides including deprotection.
  • Design and synthesis of novel nucleoside analogues to be incorporated into siRNA to improve target engagement, metabolic stability, and potency.
  • Knowledge or experience in the areas of bioconjugation chemistry, techniques used therein for conjugation to oligonucleotides.
  • Knowledge of oligonucleotide therapeutics.
  • Experience with analytical and physiochemical characterization of novel biomaterials (e.g., mass spectrometry, separation techniques and other biophysical/biochemical techniques)
  • Excellent record keeping and communication skills
  • Confident, execution-focused, and team oriented with a desire to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment
