The Discovery Chemistry & Technologies organization within Lilly Research Laboratories is growing and seeks hardworking scientists to join our Medicinal Chemistry group. We're looking for an excellent scientist with a strong attention to detail, trouble-shooting skills, a high level of learning agility, the willingness to work across teams. Responsibilities

Perform Compound Synthesis, Purification and Characterization under the direction of senior scientific staff:

  • Design – in collaboration with colleagues in Medicinal Chemistry, Computational Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology – new molecules to address hypotheses and issues in portfolio projects.
  • Design and implement multi-step synthetic routes towards targeted compounds.
  • Independently set up and complete a variety of organic chemistry reactions, including those with air sensitive and hygroscopic reagents.
  • Perform routine purification of synthetic intermediates and final products using techniques such as TLC, HPLC, flash chromatography and other related methods.
  • Characterize reaction products by NMR, MS and other routine methods.
  • Rigorously document laboratory experimentation and employ safe laboratory practices.

Contribute in an integrated, multi-disciplinary, drug discovery research team:

  • Actively contribute to a high quality design and synthesis research laboratory.
  • Integrate emerging analytical chemistry, computational design technologies, automation chemistry, and biophysical methods into drug discovery.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.

Basic Qualifications Requirements:

B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Organic/Medicinal Chemistry or related field with experience or training in a synthetic or medicinal chemistry.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Strong academic performance.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as in local and global team environments.
