Lilly’s Connected Care and Insulins team is passionate about bringing next generation therapeutic ecosystems to people using insulin that have the potential to provide breakthrough outcomes and significantly reduce the daily burden of diabetes management. We have team members located at both Lilly’s corporate headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. and at Lilly’s Innovation Center in Cambridge, MA.

The Algorithm Product Development Engineer is responsible for ensuring the system requirements of algorithm innovation platform meet the needs of Lilly’s business requirements, for solidifying a product roadmap that achieves Lilly’s breakthrough outcomes goals, leading simulations and algorithms development, and for providing system technology expertise to the product development execution efforts across Lilly’s collaborators and internal teams. This position will work closely with Lilly’s pump CGM and Pen collaborators, and Lilly’s insulin and software/hardware medical device teams on all development activities required for regulatory clearance and market access.

The Algorithm Product Development Engineer will partner with the commercial team to ensure continuity between commercial and development priorities. The consultant must have a deep understanding of diabetes algorithms development with demonstrated success working within a highly matrixed environment. Specific experience with control and system engineering is desired as well as with CGM and insulin pump technology. The consultant should understand and appreciate the regulated environment of combination products, digital, device and drug development and commercialization, including but not limited to current US. This role reports to the Connected Care Innovation Platform Leader.

Responsibilities

The core job responsibilities may include those listed below as deemed appropriate by line management, as well as all other duties as assigned.

  • Optimally executes on the deliverables as outlined in the integrated algorithm development plan.

  • Work closely with the connected care commercial insulins and algorithm development teams bringing the technical expertise on system controls.

  • Leading algorithm development, simulation, and translation with cross functional teams.

  • Improve Lilly’s driven advantage through development of proprietary knowledge. 

  • May represent department or company in interactions with internal and external committees or regulators, presentations, publications or other professional activities.

  • Work closely with the connected care commercial insulins and algorithm development teams bringing the technical expertise on system controls. 

  • Actively participates in the Innovation Platform Lead Team with key internal functions and Lilly’s pump and CGM collaborations. 

  • Proactively identification of program risks and development of effective mitigation plans. 

  • Participate in formal design reviews, risk assessment, and root cause analysis.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in Controls Engineering

  • Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of diabetes medical device development experience, including both software and/or hardware systems and control will also be considered

Additional Preferences

  • Degree in engineering field

  • Advanced degree, for example, MD, PhD, Pharm D, MBA, MPH, or MS

  • Product development experience in the US market with insulin pumps and/or closed loop systems

  • Control and /or system engineering experience

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence

  • Good knowledge of SaMD

  • In-depth hands-on knowledge of Agile methodologies and principles in a medical device or comparable regulated environment 

  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of the system of delivery, ensuring clear alignment on the business strategy and customer requirements

Travel:

  • ~5% or less

Location:

  • Cambridge, MA. or Indianapolis, IN. is preferred. However, location can be flexible within the US.
