The Medicines Development Information and Digital Solutions (MD IDS) is a strategic function that supports our company’s goal of increasing the value and reducing the development timelines of our innovative solutions for patients. We play a critical role in progressing our molecule pipeline from the time molecules leave the scientific research environment through the multiyear drug development and approval process and finally to product launch. In MD IDS, we are responsible for establishing the information management and technology environment needed for future innovation while maintaining the stable operations of critical systems needed for today’s drug development work. Our leaders understand the scientific, medical, regulatory business processes as well as the capabilities of information management and technology. Through positive partnership, MD IDS provides information technology (IT) solutions for MD business problems by defining and influencing information and business strategies, crafting, and developing solutions to achieve the strategic outcomes, and ensuring reliable deployment and operation of these solutions.

Based on this knowledge, this role influences concept development for the Shared Investigator Platform (SIP), Investigator Initiated Research (IIR) and other applications within the Clinical Operations and Development portfolio. This role is for the MD IDS Agile Business Analyst responsible for driving and active engagement on projects focused on the design, development, and delivery of key clinical trial capabilities. This role may have responsibilities for orchestrating and execution of major and multiple minor Lilly releases of Clinical Operations systems within our portfolio throughout the year. In this role, individuals will be in close partnership with the system Business area, product owners and additional responsibilities will include exploration and delivery of digital capabilities to facilitate data integration, analytics, and process automation. Additionally, this role shall participate in leading/designing projects and solution lifecycle management as well as the adoption of new capabilities in the Clinical Operations space.


Agile Business Analyst

Build effective relationships with business areas using business and system analysis skills to determine key business needs, utilize external knowledge to proactively evaluate changes in the environment and influence technology solutions specifically related to Clinical Operations business processes.
Collaborate with product owners to create product backlogs using Agile practices.
Working closely with product managers to develop business cases
Provide user stories to cross functional teams and define acceptance criteria for deliverables
Facilitate Agile processes such as release planning, refinement of the backlog and sprint reviews.
Understand the value of story points for product decision and backlog grooming
Solution oriented and collaborative approach to helping to define/refine release scope and driving a timely system release roadmap
Evaluate proposed project ideas/software changes through technical impact analysis and estimated business value to influence decision making.
Document business requirements and effectively communicate them to software vendors, developers, and testers, in a way that is understandable and complete to achieve business and project objectives.
Influence the execution of projects in collaboration with vendors, business partners, team, and management.
Analyzing and solving complex business problems and help facilitate and drive technical solution.

Technology Implementation

Execute and lead technical development/build activities; set technical direction; support software integration and data integration activities.
Ensure proper technical and business requirements have been appropriately defined for each project and are consistent with local and global requirements and best practices.
Analyze and communicate project status to multiple audiences, including all levels of management.
Propose and prototype innovative ways of approaching business solutions using emerging technologies
Understand and communicate implication of technical decisions on the business, applications and project timelines.
Ensure design aligns with project goals, requirements and testing strategies.

Service Management

Maintain application uptime/performance and lead a support team in resolving critical incidents or problems as necessary.
Development – Translate the design elements (configuration/development and data integration) from the business requirements and provide these to developers, or product vendors. Participate in coding, configuration, and development activities periodically.
Testing – Ensure system testing methods are appropriate, coordinated, and comprehensive to decrease the probability of unexpected system issues or inability to optimize the systems’ use to maximize business benefit.
Deployment –Contribute to the successful plan and execution of the deployment of the project or system changes, which includes support for training, business adoption, implementation, and stabilization activities.
ITIL processes – Strong understanding and ability to implement/maintain IT best practices (e.g. ITIL) for service management processes.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science or related field
  • At least 2 years of experience with software development life cycle, spanning the lifecycle from project initiation to deployment, support, and retirement.
  • Understand the Agile development processes and familiar with requirements gathering techniques ie users stories, backlog, story point assignment
  • Experience using JIRA

Additional Preferences:

  • Strong analysis/problem assessment/problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (Cloud Formation, Lambda, Step, RDS) and implementation of those services in a regulated environment
  • Demonstrated ability to broadly influence business and IDS leaders across the organization
  • Experience with development and analysis languages such as PL/SQL, Python, Node.js
  • Experience creating and/or utilizing APIs or RESTful Web Services
  • Familiarity with Software Quality Assurance methods and techniques
  • Experience working in a regulated GXP environment
  • Experience with Critical Chain, and ITIL methodologies
  • Experience leading teams
  • Communication skills (oral, written and active listening)
  • Learning agility related to business processes and technical solutions
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and self-management skills
  • Ability to accomplish result through others, by establishing relationships and being an effective team member and business partner.
  • Ability to work with individuals across organizational boundaries
