Elanco is a global research-based company that develops and delivers product and services to enhance animal health and production. We value innovation, both in scientific research and daily operations, and strive to cultivate a collaborative work environment for more than 7,000 employees worldwide. Founded in 1954, Elanco is a division of Lilly. Our worldwide headquarters and research facilities are in Greenfield, Indiana
The Post Doctoral Scientist is responsible for conducting basic and applied research as an individual contributor at Elanco Research Labs. The primary research project will involve investigation of the mechanisms of cell signaling in cellular and animal models of veterinary immunologic disease, including validation of potential therapeutic target genes. A strong foundation in molecular immunology and cellular biology techniques will be required to proactively search for solutions in this discovery driven team. The ability to independently conceptualize and execute experiments, coupled with a “can do” attitude, is essential.
Key Objectives/Deliverables
  • Establish and validate skin and immune cell models using cell lines and/or primary cells
  • Design and validate gene silencing of multiple targets using CRISPR and/or RNAi in multiple canine skin and immune cell models
  • Design and execute experiments to explore kinase signaling pathways in canine immune cells
  • Participate in cross-functional research teams and effectively collaborate with other functional groups in the organization
  • Enable the timely progression of research projects through the practical application of scientific expertise which may include planning and execution of laboratory work
  • Network within the organization, manage time effectively, have strong organizational skills and demonstrate leadership capabilities
  • Keep abreast of relevant scientific literature / technologies / capabilities
  • Proactively search for novel technologies or product opportunities and establish collaborations and research programs to deliver innovative technical solutions
  • Demonstrate proficiency at data reporting, interpretation, and trending
  • Demonstrate good documentation skills with regard to the collection of raw data and authorship of protocols and experimental reports
  • Authorship of publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • PhD degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology or related scientific discipline
  • and/or D.V.M. or M.D.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Immunology and Molecular Biology methods including cell isolation and culture and cellular immunology assays (i.e. cytokine stimulation, reporter gene expression, and cellular proliferation)
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of assay design, development, optimization, validation, and implementation to support immunology discovery programs (i.e. ELISA, FACS, and RT-qPCR)
  • Experience with design and validation of gene silencing techniques in vitro (i.e. CRISPR, RNAi)
  • Understanding of next generation sequencing and bioinformatics methods for evaluating gene expression patterns would be preferable
  • Effective oral and written communications skills
  • High personal ethical and quality standards
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Must be able to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Occasional travel (mainly US)
