This position will be responsible for leading the strategic approach, technical delivery, and support of IT solutions enabling the Elanco Research organization in the development of novel Animal Health products. The primary focus for this role will be on establishing and supporting capabilities and systems for research functions historically provided in partnership with Lilly Research IT, that will need to be implemented for Elanco as an independent company. These capabilities include essential functions for molecule registration and sample management, as well as scientific platforms and tools enabling the research process. The individual filling this role, will be accountable for understanding the scientific process, and implementing global and/or local technical solutions in alignment with the business requirements. This position requires strong collaboration with IT peers, business partners and third parties to ensure successful execution and compliance with regulatory requirements as they apply to research.
  • In partnership with scientific leadership and the R&D IT architect, the initial focus of this role will be to define the strategic approach and implementation of molecule registration and sample management capabilities for Elanco
  • Develop expertise within the Elanco Research IT function, including knowledge of multiple business processes, IT systems, and associated data and integration points
  • Be an expert and resource in the business use of research IT applications, ensure systems remain in a validated state and manage lifecycle through releases and retirement
  • Partner with IT peers located at global sites in the planning, implementation, and support of global research systems.
  • Possess awareness and knowledge of regulatory, legal or quality requirements impacting the business areas, and ensures solution requirements comply
  • Serve as a point of contact for various functional areas, working with business partners to identify and capture new opportunities, improve processes, and optimize the value IT can provide
  • Assess technical solutions proposed by central IT and external vendors, create business cases, and recommend technical approach
This position will report to Manager, Elanco R&D.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a scientific discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years information technology experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience supporting an R&D function
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
  • Understanding of and/or experience with Registration and Sample Management platforms and processes strongly preferred
  • Understanding of GxP requirements and experience delivering within those requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and influence integration points with other areas, processes, and functions.
  • Business related experiences that support developing an understanding of business area strategy, needs, opportunities and challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and leverage key internal and external cross-functional relationships to develop ideas, solutions and opportunities.
  • Expertise working in complex, diverse landscapes (business, technology, regulatory, partners, providers)
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently and significantly influence and negotiate with peers, business partners, external companies and leadership.
  • Travel Percentage: 10-15%
