Position Brand Description:
The Sr Specialist will serve as a change agent and technical leader for the QC and the Culture lab. They will perform and train on wide range of analytical methods, microbial/culture lab methods, aseptic technique, equipment qualifications and routine equipment maintenance. They will assist chemist with special projects, new method development and laboratory investigations. They are expected to be active in identifying, communicating, and participating in opportunities for improvement to lab operations.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Safety (always)

  • Be a member of the department safety team.
  • Be a safety role model for the shift, wearing proper PPE and supporting all safety and enviromental policies/procedures.
Technical Activities and Training(50%)
  • Perform routine QC and culture laboratory duties,
  • Provide training on analytical methods, microbiological methods, aseptic technique, equipment qualifications and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and incorporate enhancements into training materials and/or procedures.
  • Serve as a change agent for the labs. Will facilitate change across shifts to ensure compliance and maintain consistency.
  • Incorporate knowledge of GDP and GMP standards during training.
  • Requires trainer level expertise in multiple areas of the QC and Culture laboratory, including: analytical techniques, analytical equipment, computer systems, aseptic techinique and inoculating the fermenter.
  • Challenge current practices and raise the bar on laboratory performance.
  • Lead the initial analytical and microbiological investigations and work with the area chemist to identify root cause.
  • Be a primary contact for equipment and method performance troubleshooting.
Development Lab Activities (20%)
  • May support the development lab with projects (documentation, testing, set up, running).
  • Perform laboratory analysis and run lab models as required.
  • Collect, archive and report data.
  • Update documents.
  • Support implementation of process and laboratory improvements.
Sample Analysis and Reporting (10%)
  • Coordinate and perform non-routine activities and testing.
  • Performs data entry and verification reviews with the utmost dilegence and attention to detail in accordance with procedures.
  • Accurate, precise and timely execution of methods and related support activities.
Lab Operations (20%)
  • Serve as a point of contact for operations and chemist to ensure their projects are properly prioritized within the workgroup.
  • Communicate with other functions regarding key operational objectives.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities for special studies and more complex validations.

  • High School diploma/GED with 5 years of relevant lab experience or Associates degree in a science field (chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry or engineering.
  • Completion of Post Offer Exam, Completion of Work Simulation or Completion of Administrative Skills Testing if applicable.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
  • Support and adhere to all safety requirements, including mitigation of ergonomic laboratory concerns by proper use of PPE, ergo tools/techniques, and flex & stretch activities.
  • Proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office products. Demonstrated capability of computer applications, including Darwin and Trackwise.
  • Shift is 8 hour days, but must be flexible to overlap night shift when needed. Unscheduled overtime may be required.
  • Strict adherence to absence management policy is critical.
  • Language requirements – EnglishDemonstrated strong oral and written communication and interpersonal interaction skills.
  • Expertise in lab operations, attention-to-detail and thoroughness are critical components.
  • Overtime required as needed to meet the business needs.
  • Laboratory work requires the handling of hazardous materials, including possible allergens.
  • Tasks may require repetitive motion and standing for long periods of time.
